Company Profile

Joliet Metallurgical Laboratories, Inc. is the largest laboratory
of its kind in the United States and has been engaged in metallurgical testing since 1956. The laboratory contains two large capacity tensile testing machines, and 400 test stands that can be used for stress-rupture, creep and creep-rupture testing. Testing can be performed in the temperature range from room to 2200 degrees Farenheight in air.

A complete machine shop featuring an aerospace approved low-stress grinding division is available for specimen preparation and test equipment modification.

Testing is performed in accordance with AMS and/or ASTM specifications, unless the customer indicates that testing is to be conducted to meet his own material specifications. AMS specifications are updated quarterly and ASIM standards are updated on an annual basis. Customer material specifications are kept current as received from the customer.

In the case of testing to either AMS or ASTM, the customer is advised of any test that fails to meet minimum requirements. The same policy is adhered to where testing is performed to the customer's specifications.

In addition to a hard copy report of test results, creep data is also available on a floppy disk if requested.

Unique Testing Features at Joliet Metallurgical
Laboratories, Inc.

bullet

JML has been in business since 1956, specializing in Low Stress Ground Specimen Preparation, Tensile, Stress-Rupture, Creep, and Creep-Rupture testing.

bullet

JML has been NADCAP approved since 1994.

bullet

JML is the largest laboratory of its kind with approximately 400 test stands capable of Stress-Rupture, Creep, and Creep-Rupture testing from room temperature to 2200ºF.

bullet

JML is uniquely qualified to test the most advanced materials, including single crystal alloys.

bullet

JML uses a continuous looped system to control test temperature per ASTM and verifies each test - each shift using a manual digital meter to avoid possible test temperature errors.

bullet

JML uses dual measuring instrumentation extensometers with computer averaging, not mechanical averaging, for greater precision at low strain rates.

bullet

JML has Creep and Stress-Rupture tests that have been “in test” for over five years. As we also specialize in long term testing, JML uses special gages to avoid any “drift” problems associated with all electronic LVDT and capacitance transducers.

bullet

JML has automatic electrical power back up in case of a power failure.

bullet

JML supplies all data in electronic format for convenient downloading into your computer system.
